10 Reasons to Vote for Obama
By Paul Lyons
1. Taxes – While John McCain tries to spread lies about Obama’s tax policy, actually Obama’s tax policy is right on. If you can’t live off $250,000 then you need to simply look at your navel. Perhaps John McCain should look at his navel a bit more.
2. Peace – I believe it is of utmost importance that we have President that believes in peace. One never truly achieves peace through war but only through dialogue. Obama would at least bring a new foreign policy to the United States. I fear the briefings that he will receive upon taking office as the damage has been done.
3. World Perception – Electing Barack Obama will in an instance change the world’s perception of the US. Imagine how the cause of democracy could be served in electing someone with such a diverse background to the highest office in the land.
4. Obama’s Website – While this may be construed as lame, the fact that Obama has a great website only means that he is person who “gets it” and can deliver in the modern age.
5. Basketball – I have always hoped that someone with other careers beside law, national defense or b-movie acting would have a chance at president – perhaps a great writer or musician, but the fact that Obama can play basketball is a major positive. Think how entertaining the 10 o’clock news will be. “Obama sinks three pointer in White House employee basketball tournament!”
6. Education – Now is the time to have a smart guy running the country. Eight years of Bush has been a disaster. Having someone who is a scholar on Constitutional Law has to be a good thing.
7. Energy Policy – Obama seems sincere in forging ahead with a new, bold, energy policy focusing on renewable. I think that this will be grand.
8. Sarah Palin – The thought of Sarah Palin as President is simply terrifying. Someone who obviously was chosen, not for her experience or intelligence, but for politically motivated reasons, is one thing. But the fact that she is completely ignorant about the world as a whole, and may be thrust into a position of great power could only return disastrous results. Being Governor of Alaska is no stepping-stone for the big stage.
9. Age – Forty-Seven is a perfect age to be president. You can get out of bed, pound down two cups of coffee and get a lot of stuff done. At Forty-Seven you can look back to the 1960s and get a sniff of World War II. But at the same time Forty-Seven allows one to be young enough to format an excel document, organize your email and know how to reboot a computer. Hopefully Forty-Seven also allows one to have enough experience in coming up with some really good passwords. Barack is going to need them.
10. The Supreme Court – Someone on the bus told me that three of those old guys in the black sheets who make up the laws in the land are getting tired and may quit. Since the president chooses the next folks, it probably is good to have a guy like Obama calling these shots. Guns, life-saving operations, issues of personal freedom, civil rights – the list is long.
