Weather Report

Still 70 inches of snow at Donner Summit, but the longer days are surely melting away the snow pictured here. It was a decent ski season with some early snow and then a few storms in February. Like the last few years, the spring weather pattern seems to have arrived a few weeks early. Two weeks ago a cold northwest wind blew in that really had a bite to it with temperatures in the high thirties. With the winds comes a drier spring and the surfing takes a hiatus.

There is much talk of drought but I think it is way overblown. A drought is when it simply does not rain. We simply flush our toilets way too much. Stayed tuned for fire season just in a few months.

Below are photos from a Donner Summit trip in early March. Castle Peak and Emigrant Wilderness along the Pacific Crest Trail.

Actually this report is off. The last few days have been amazingly warm and a long period swell came in, not that I was able to get out there as the work thing was in the way. Today, and for the next few days there is rain forecast and you can see it coming in off the ocean. These are all good things.
